What is Creative Writing?

Creative Writing: Many people think it is an easy subject. For certain people I suppose it is. When I was in High school, and even elementary school, I loved creative writing. This type of writing let's an individual be as imaginative as he or she wants, and no piece is considered "bad" or "wrong" because your story is yours and you can make it what you want it to be.

As the years go on, I have realized creative writing gets in to a much more in depth topic. To discussing poems from E.E. Cummings to reading many short poems and picking out specific words that demonstrate traits such as imagery.

So far, I love that this class is challenging. Everyone needs to be challenged now and again.

Shakespeare

When most people think of Shakespeare they think of the popular poems Romeo & Juliet, or Hamlet. Personally, my favorite is Romeo & Juliet. It's just like any other love story. Boy and girl meet, fall in love, and plan to get married. The only problem is that these two are from feuding families that want nothing more than for them to despise each other. But because they love each other and as we all know love conquers all, Romeo & Juliet go against their parents wishes and continue seeing each other. As the love story goes on, we learn that Juliet takes a sleeping potion to make her family think that she has killed herself, however, Romeo isn't in on this and thinks she is dead. Romeo then kills himself because he thinks this. Minutes later, Juliet awakens to realize that her love Romeo is dead, so she kills herself.

This is a tragic yet popular poem of Shakespeare's. Did I mention that Romeo & Juliet were around the age of 13 or 14 when this occurred? Sure this is a tragic love story, but it has the heart of many. I for one, love the story, but I don't know if I could go about my life speaking the English that was spoken back when this was written. Change is a wonderful thing.
